Google is Changing PageRank Algorithm? How will it Affect Problogging Income?

There has been sometime since Google has stopped the PageRank updates every 3 months or so. It seemed that the PageRank has been done gradually. Right now a few well-known blogs are now being penalized via PageRank. This came as a surprise to the owners.

Why is this happening? Google already warned before about the selling of text links. Some blogs were penalized because of this. However, well-known blogs such as Problogger and Copyblogger were also penalized. It did not seem to be right because both Problogger and Copyblogger weren’t selling links.

Daniel lists Popular blogs that recently lost PR:

  • www.engadget.com (from 7 to 5)
  • www.autoblog.com (from 6 to 4)
  • www.problogger.net (from 6 to 4)
  • www.copyblogger.com (from 6 to 4)
  • www.searchenginejournal.com (from 7 to 4)
  • www.quickonlinetips.com (from 6 to 3)
  • www.seroundtable.com (from 7 to 4)
  • www.blogherald.com (from 6 to 4)
  • weblogtoolscollection.com (from 6 to 4)
  • www.johntp.com (from 6 to 4)
  • www.coolest-gadgets.com (from 5 to 3)

Is Google just readjusting the PageRank scale?

John Chow has this to say:

My feeling on this is to not even worry about it too much. Keep an eye on your search traffic for the next week or two. If it’s still the same then the drop in PageRank is just a number drop and nothing more. However, if that is the case, then PageRank just became irrelevant.

True. I don’t think we have to worry about it to much. Blogging has originally been done to give information. Let’s just focus on building a better blog and forget about PageRank altogether.

Have you checked your PageRank recently? I wonder how this will affect blogs that make money by selling links. How will this penalty or change affect income in the problogging community? Will blogging continue to be a way of making a living? What new income generating schemes will rise after these penalties? I am eager to know what you think about this recent development.
