Saving money is a goal for most of us. We plan to save a little each payday until it reaches a substantial amount. We put some of our money in a time deposit account to earn a fixed percentage a year. You plan to save as much of what you earn so that you can buy your needs, buy your wants and hopefully retire much earlier and having a decent living from your savings.
But sometimes you think you are not saving enough. You find yourself creating and having more credit card debt. I have the same problem myself. In fact, we all have the same problems. However, I am continually changing and learning to change my ways and do things in a certain way. I started to give up on some of my bad habits.
You may not know it but you have habits that are preventing you from saving more money. Here are some of mine that I have given up to save more:
Giving up television. I am TV and DVD movie fasting right now. As I see it, I can find anything I want to learn on the internet. There’s nothing on television that cannot be seen or read on the internet. It saves you money on electricity. Giving up watching has saved me money by reducing my exposure to commercial advertisements that brainwashes you into buying or availing their products.
Reduced bookstore visits. I am a bookworm and if I find any book that interests me, I find myself getting a copy of it. Right now, I read all I need to learn from the internet. It has so far reduced the balance on my credit card bills.
Going home early. I am an internet geek and I find myself browsing at night at work through the internet finding anything that interests me. Going home late forced me to take the taxi since bus rides were not so safe late at night. This has reduced my daily fare by half.
Giving up computer games. Just months ago, me and some of my co-workers spent our time going out and searching for computer shops wherein we rent computer and play Defense of the Ancients or DoTA. I moved away from this spending habit because of work-related problems that kept arising from the habit ( I kept on reading on it at work. shhh… ). The decision was a good one and it also saved me money.
Reduced malling. Since I had a girlfriend, malling became a part of my daily routine. We walked and talked and bought and ate. I managed to save a little to none at that time. I had increased spending on fastfoods and takeouts. I had increased spending because of movies. I also had increased spending because we did window-shopping which really ended with shopping.
I am quite eager to know what regular things do you think should be eliminated to help us save more money.
