Down with PageRank, Go with RealRank?

Go with RealRank

Google PageRank update effects

It’s been a while since the Google PageRank downgrades. You could read about it all over the blogosphere. Why was PageRank so important that it created such a buzz everywhere?

Google is the most popular search engine available and PageRank is Google’s only method of measurement of how popular a site is. Although the whole PageRank algorithm is flawed, many raced to get their site ranked. Text link ads were bought not only to increase search engine rankings but also to increase PageRank.

With the increase of webmasters trying to manipulate PageRank, Google the PageRank of all sites that sold text link ads. However, this did not stop text link ads from being sold. In fact, I have read that the recent update increased the profitability of selling text link ads

Incoming New Player

IZEA, the company that has brought you PayPerPost, is now engineering a new ranking system, RealRank. RealRank promises to determine the ‘Real’ value of a blog based on this formula.

  • 70% weighted towards visitors per day
  • 20% weighted towards amount of ACTIVE inbound links per day
  • 10% weighted towards pageviews per day

The problem I see with this is that RealRank doesn’t ‘automatically’ gather all these information. A piece of javascript should be first installed.

My Questions

  • Will this be available to other websites which are not blogs?
  • Will you have plans on automatically generating ‘Real’ rank without the installation of the javascript code?
  • Google PageRank approximately updates the toolbar every 3 months. How often will RealRank updates be shown?
  • Will IZEA have a toolbar wherein advertisers can see a website’s RealRank without going to the IZEA website?

I have high hopes for this and I hope this would be a successful competitor to Google’s PageRank.

I too am excited on how this RealRank will develop. Hopefully this will go mainstream and will stop the FUD thats been spreading around by Google.

Great observations Teejay. :)

You’d never know. RealRank may weigh more than PageRank in the future in terms of blog selling prices.

I have heard some things about Google going after PayPerPost members but I hope RealRank will be used as much as PageRank was/is.

now it’s so easy to be detected by Google, who’s using PPP and not
(because of the code you have to insert in your blog)
