Now we gotta make the best of it, improvise, adapt to the environment, Darwin, shit happens, I Ching, whatever man, we gotta roll with it.
~Vincent (Collateral, 2004)
Change has been an ever going thing on this world. It affects everything. Businesses are always changing. With these changes comes new methods and strategies brought on by new technologies of the information age.
Managers have to keep up with all the ongoing changes. Being in the IT Management, adapting to change has been very vital. Sometimes we started doing things in a certain way then suddenly some new practices are being brought down from higher management. We needed to adapt, change strategies and get the winning formula for each situation. We had to be ready to skilfully unlearn those old methods and learn the new methods to keep up with the pace.
We had to read, research, propose and implement any technology and methodology with regards to IT. We have a team of technical people testing out new hardwares and softwares to change the outdated ones if the costs and benefits allow it. These researches put us at an advantage over our competitors.
Adaptation does not only affect strategies and methodologies. Managers also need to adapt to the ever-changing times. People’s ideology right now is much different from people’s ideology 5 years ago. Even management has changed a lot. Right now is much more staff-oriented than 5 years ago.
If managers try to skip on change they would likely lose. The business will lose. If you are a good manager, you will be willing to unlearn and adapt.
