The success of a website is largely dependent on the search engine traffic. High search engine results indirectly results in higher Adsense earnings, product sales and referral commissions.
Keywords chosen play a great part in search engine results. Keywords are the words and phrases that users type in search forms of search engines. These keywords should match words in your content or the anchor texts in links pointing to your website.
Over the past few years, we have been hearing about Long Tail Keywords. You may ask, “what are these?”, “how will these help increase my search engine traffic?”. I will try to answer these questions in a while.
Most websites’ search engine traffic don’t get it from the highly competitive keywords. Most websites’ search engine traffic come from the low competitive keywords and phrases that most search engine users use.
What are Long Tail Keywords?
Long tail Keywords are the words and phrases being typed in by search engine users in the search engine search form.
Long tail principle lies in focusing on the non-top 10-20 keywords in marketing their sites. It focuses on getting the small traffic from the many low-competitive keywords.
Let’s take “rent a car”. This keyword is very competitive. There are thousands if not millions of sites that target this keyword. If you turn to the long tail principle, you would then be focusing on the following:
- renting a car in manila
- hiring a wedding car
- getting cheap rent a car rates
Benefits of Long tail keywords
- Its so much easier to rank. There will be less people competing with you if you focus on low competitive keywords.
- Better traffic. If you rank well with keywords that search engine users use it will convert to better traffic.
- Better monetization potential. If you get a higher rank in search engines for keywords that search engine users use, you get more traffic. More traffic means more potential for PPC and affiliate programs.
Long tail keywords much easier to target. I don’t see any problem when focusing on these keywords. Unless you consider traffic a problem.
If you have a blog or a website, these long tail keywords will definitely help you increase your traffic and website monetization.
