Do you want to make money online?

What kind of question is that? Of course you do!

Ever since I went online, I wanted to make money. Making money can be through consulting, website hosting, web programming, advertising and many, many more. The list is almost endless.

So I have decided to make a list of ways to make money online much like McBilly’s, John Chow’s, John Cow and the Problogger’s. However, I will not be listing the programs through which people earn money but the business models that most online earners create.

Made for advertisement sites

There are thousands if not millions of sites like this on the internet which comprises of top quality resources to utter garbage sites. Mostly thanks to Google Adsense and many contextual advertising programs ( shh.. I also do this). Here’s a good example of one who’s hell bent on making money with this model.

The typical approach to making MFA websites:

  1. Find a profitable niche - You might want to look at nice keywords you can rank in.
  2. Create a website - You can create a Wordpress blog to take advantage of the SEO capabilities of Wordpress
  3. Put up Adsense - From what I hear, Google Adsense pays better than any contextual advertising program. Kontera and Bidvertiser are also good alternatives.
  4. Create some information - It doesn’t mean that the information should be of utmost quality but still it should be information that people would want to have.
  5. Drive traffic - Create a buzz and/or SEO the site. When the traffic comes, the money comes.

Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs have been running even before the internet. It’s what most sales people do. Most sales people earn commission on every sale. Online affiliate programs are not very different. Affiliates earn a substantial amount with this models and I believe this to be fantastic way to make money online. However, skills as online marketeers makes the difference in this arena.

Googlelady has an interesting making money case study on the Amazon affiliate program.

The typical approach to Affiliate programs:

  1. Find a good product to sell - It’s a very good idea to sell something you know about, have tried or have trust in.
  2. Get a good domain for the website(optional) - If you don’t already have a website, a good keyword domain would be best. Here is a post on how to choose a domain name.
  3. Set up affiliate links(optional) - Affiliate links might be incorporated into posts or may be set-up as advertisements on the website.
Here’s an example of an affiliate link I use for HostGator. (hostgator affiliate link)
  4. Create ways to market your website - You can use Adwords, ezine marketing and having joint ventures partners are good ways to drive traffic to your website.

These are just 2 ways of making money online through websites. I will be posting more make money online business models in the following days. For now, I suggest you make in-depth and thorough research for making money using these models.

This is part of a mini-series of ways to make money through websites. Be updated with the next posts by subscribing to my RSS feeds.
