Eating at home is the cheapest alternative to eating out most of the time. Sometimes, we would still eat out occasionally to deal with professional burnout.
Eating out is very expensive especially during business meetings. The food must be absolutely tasty. The restaurant should be presentable. I’ve read in a book that The Learning Annex CEO, Bill Zanker, paid more than a hundred dollars in tip to the maitre d’ asking if he can ask him if he wants his usual table. The point is, everything must be absolutely perfect.
In my context, ‘perfect’ doesn’t mean too expensive whether it is for business or for pleasure. you can still minimize the amount you spend depending on your appetite and budget. Here are tips on how you can implement frugality so that you do not overpay and minimize cost.
Drink water before leaving. Drinking water is absolutely healthier than drinking soda or soft drinks. It also fills up the stomach that gives you symptoms of fullness. This is no longer a secret to frugal people.
Order filling food. Whenever we eat outside we make sure that we get most of what we pay. Ordering food that comes with rice or pasta is usually the cheaper ones. Another option is to order the family-size meal or specials for the group.
Order appetizers first. Insist on ordering the appetizers first since they are cheaper than the main meals. There’s a good chance that people will not be ordering a lot after eating most of the appetizers.
Tip the waiter before ordering. There are many possibilities that it can be advantageous to you if you tip the waiter. He can recommend the best food for your money. He can also make your experience at the restaurant worthwhile.
As much as possible, stay away from the dessert. Not only does it help you stay away from more calories, it will save you money. Desserts are one of the most expensive parts of the meal wherein a banana shake can cost almost the same as a regular meal. Just stay away!
Go for bottomless if appropriate. I am a heavy drinker (of juice or tea). It is therefore a good choice to go bottomless.
Research on the restaurant menu. It’s better to know which food to order before going out. This will help you budget how much you will likely spend on food.
Eating out should be a way to socialize with friends, business colleagues and to meet people. Remember to enjoy your meal while following these tips to minimize costing for eating out.
