This is the fourth discussion in a book review series on The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, which focuses on setting goals high and achieving success.
This section is filled up with a two procedures for building confidence and destroying fear. I thought it would be worthwhile to move slowly and examine each of the two.
Deposit only positive thoughts in your memory bank. Whenever we meet disastrous event we tend to remember it. The thing is, we must not let unpleasant and embarrassing moments in your life ruin your opportunities. We should not let these dwell in our minds. Putting only positive thoughts will give us the confidence the next time we meet similar situations.
Withdraw only positive thoughts from your memory bank. Our fear is a reflection of bad encounters experienced. Whenever we are faced with alike situations, try remember only the good memories related to it. Don’t build mental monsters.
I do something different whenever I face events that makes me think of failure. I remind myself that there will never be the same moment in my life. With this in mind, I do it and make the best out of it.
David goes on and gives five techniques to build confidence.
- Be a front seater
- Practice making eye contact
- Walk 25 percent faster
- Practice speaking up
- Smile big
Obviously, these tips aren’t going build you strong confidence right away. But with practice, I believe these tips will cut the mustard.
In a nutshell, this section heavily states that fear is just a product of the mind and it could easily be eliminated entirely from our lives.
The next discussion, will cover the fourth section of The Magic of Thinking Big (How to Think Big).
